07 Apr Acts of Service
My dear friend Jessica Lark said goodbye to her husband this weekend. He’s gone to Afghanistan for a year as part of the last deployment there- the ones with the dangerous job of being the last American soldiers stationed there, packing up and moving out.
I have learned so much about service from this friendship, and seen a completely different side of the military. It’s given me a lot to think on.
I have strong feelings about war, pacifism, peacekeeping, and the trustworthiness of the Canadian and American governments when it comes to military decisions abroad.
But I now have equally strong feelings of wonder and gratitude towards the men and women who truly are risking their lives from a place of service and love, and towards the families who wait for them.
Love you, Jess and Mike. Thanks for sharing your story and your lives.
